Default Cable TB cruise question

Does anybody know if there is any benefit to hooking the cruise control module up to the PCM. The J wire on the cruise module goes to the "cruise engaged" wire in the PCM, but works without it hooked up. There must be a reason that GM had it hooked up to the PCM. I'm thinking if it were hooked to the PCM, it might disengage the cruise if you were to put the car in neutral while the cruise is on since the PCM knows if the car is in gear versus park or neutral. Anybody know for sure, or anything else it may do?

I think it was to send the signal to the instrument cluster to turn the light on. There are also different trans shift tables for cruise mode so your theory works too

Well it depends on if you have DBW or cable throttle body, I think yours is cable if I remember correctly, so all you really need is a cruise module with cable off of a '94-up S-10, there are others but the S-10 is super easy to find and hook up, (I used a '98 that I got at the U-pick-it for $17) and the factory cruise lever/switch off of your '87. Then read this write up, (great by the way!) https://ls1tech.com/forums/conversio...driven-tb.html and hook up a few wires. It's amazingly simple once you really get to looking at it. And it works awesome! Much better than the aftermarket cruise I put on my Nova years ago that cost almost $200. I have maybe $30 total in this one!

I had thought about the light on the dash, but wasn't sure if it affected anything else. If there are different shift tables for when the cruise is on, it might be worth hooking up. I would just try it if it wasn't such a pain in the *** to run wires from the engine compartment to the PCM under the dash.
