alt mounting
I was searching for different altmounting options, allthought it will fit like stock f-body dress up. I will not be using the AC, and I think there is more room on that side (steeringbox on the other), has anyone put the alt on the low AC spot, could it bolt in or will it fit at all, what to do?
I am just thinking how to mount and cut my frame so that's why I ask.
Thanks
Peter
Some use the Corvette setup but I don't have that much width to work with. Others buy brackets from S&P or March but I find the cost too prohibitive. Turbo Technology Inc, www.turbotechnologyinc.com, has a bracket kit used in their F-body LS1 that sells for $275.00. My prototype places the alternator in the same location as the Turbo setup but replaces the tensioner for the idler pulley located between the crank pulley and power steering pump pulley. The alternator should sit about 3.5 to 4" higher than the top of the engine. There is a basic drawing in that post showing the layout. Once my prototype is complete I'll have a few made (probably in stainless) and offer them up for sell. I've got to finance this project somehow.
