Conversion Engine Selection

Conversion Engine Selection
I am looking for either a 4.8/5.3 iron block for a notch swap. My curiousness is there a better year or model to get? I saw the stickey with the engine breakdowns but stats and real world are two different things. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
And just to clear up this has no relation to the TT hot rod article, there's enough of those threads already.
Thanks

Nothing worth mentioning against a certain year 4.8/5.3 in particular
Not like the first two years of the 6.0s with iron heads and a funky crank
Just keep in mind the minor changes over the years and pick one that suits your goals/price range

Don't be afraid of an engine with 100K on the clock if the price is right and do not pay a premium for a low mile engine, especially if you are going to pull it apart (yes, I've seen it done)!
Don't pay a premium for a 6.0. If you aren't going to swap heads a 4.8 or 5.3 is perfect. Keep in mind swapping heads on the smaller bore vastly limits your selection which may make the 6.0 necessary for your goals.
For simplicity sake, drive by cable is the easiest and cheapest. Properly set up, you won't be able to tell the difference from the cockpit.

I wouldn't min doing a rebuild on the engine, don't know if I want to justify forging it... As for heads was just planning on 317s, which is standard on the 6.0s so might be wiser to go that route.
Drive by cable? Not a big deal of I get a pull out with PCM and such?
Thanks for the heads up.
