drive shaft length question
drive shaft length question has anyone had to cut down there drive shaft to fit in 68 camaro with ls1 t56? what length did you have to cut it? or is it best to buy a new drive shaft?

put the transmission yoke in all the way and pull it out 1/2 to 3/4 inch and then mesure between the two u joints holes on the yokes (in the center of the holes.) that is how did it when i made mine for my th400 and 9 inch rear for my 94 camaro. oh and make sure the car suspension is loaded when you mesure it
I cut mine. Don't use anyone elses length to figure out how to cut yours. Get your motor and trans in, measure it right, or have the driveshaft shop measure it, and there is no problem having it shortened. What other reason is there to have your shaft shortened? Only need a new one if you need a stronger one. but even then it will need to be measured right.

i agree, all the mount company's are not putting the drivetrain in the exact same spot.

Good info Driveshaft Shop but honestly it depends on who is making his driveshaft. I've used several different people over the years long before I had heard of you guys and some want it done slightly differently. You guys are counting the yoke in the measurement and some shops don't.
In short, use a quality shop and check with them BEFORE you measure. This will save you LOTS of drama.

Excellent advice, also if using a local shop make sure they have a balancer. I cant tell you how many people have there shafts balanced at our location after they were told the shaft they bought was Static balanced (the shops think because its a straight shaft it does not need balancing)
