Default Cam recommendations wanted for LS1

Hello,

I have nice LS1/4L60e that I'm going to mod slightly and put into a '55 Chevy convertible. The car will be a cruiser but I want it to have a bit of performance when I want to have a little fun. Will definitely always be running under 6k RPM.

Mod ideas:
  • 243 heads: I have a really nice set on a 2008 5.3 with 20k miles.
  • New valve springs and pushrods
  • LS6 intake
  • New LS2 timing chain
  • New Oil pump

What cam would you recommend? I would like 350+RWHP and a fairly smooth idle.
Been considering an LS6 cam or a little more (suggestions wanted)
A TR224 looks like a great cam but probably a bit
lumpy.

Also, at what point will I need a higher Converter stall?
Anything else I need to consider?

Thanks in advance.

the tr224 matches up nicely with the 243 heads, would be a great cam for the 55 makes good tq numbers down low.lumpy has to with the lsa angle get the cam on 112 lsa and set it up +1 and you'll be very happy.

I would go with the EPS 222/226 on a 114lsa if you want something mild sounding but putting down good power. With stock 243 heads you should easily reach your goal (should be in the 380 range).

I just did a stall, cam tune, this summer. After doing my research I recommend a stall first cam and tune. the tune has to match the stall and cam. I went with a 3200 stall eps 226 234 113, the car has headers,ls6 intake and cold air 373 gears it put down 377 hp 358 tq. I pretty happy with my set up.

Good luck

I had a tr224 with 243 heads in the ls1 Im parting out and thought it was a pretty good cam. Small enough to be streetable but sounded good at idle. It's a pretty popular cam.

LS6 Intake to match up with the 243 head would be nice, Stall to match the cam (2800-3200 ?). A set of Header.

for 350rwhp, any of the LS6, GM Hot Cam, TR224R or TR228R should get you there. Would not suggest anything bigger if just a cruiser. If you want some Lop for the old school sound. Try the Comp Thrumpr cam or one of the TR's with a smaller LSA (110-114).

With the 4L60E, you can also up the rear Gear 3.55 or 3.73 and still get fair mileage.

But a Tune is the key to putting all of this together.
