driveshaft questions Doing a ls1/4l60e swap on my nova. I was plannin on cutting my driveshaft but just lookin 2 see if there is a cheaper alternative way I can do this? Can I use a f body driveshaft and will it fit? I would love 2 save the weight wit the aluminum one instead of my old one

The guy I have been using forever asks a bunch of questions before even giving me a ballpark price. Everything changes the price from u-joint style to length and material. He also wants to know what it will be used for and will make suggestions accordingly.
The best deal is to work with a reputable shop. If you don't like what they say, ask lots of questions about why and get a second opinion.

For example.. mine is Seamless 3" Chromeoly Steel Tubing, 1350 Spicer Joints front and back, Strange HD Forged 27 Spline 1350 Yoke.

In my particular situation, I am installing a bone stock 98 Z28 drive train (auto) in a 79 Fox body Mustang and am only looking to get her road worthy. Down the road she may see a 100 shot. I did keep the factory 98 Z shaft as well as the factory Ford shaft. Was hoping this may make things easier/cheaper on the old wallet.

When I bought my 4l80e it came with the slip yolk and driveshaft was cut off close to it with a plasma cutter. I brought my g-body shaft to the shop with slip yolk in hand and said "I need my driveshaft made to 'X' length and I need this slip yolk on it". They shortened it, balanced it and I had them put new U-joints on both ends. Total price: $165.00. Might have been different if I had an aluminum shaft but I can't say for sure.
I'm pretty sure that driveshafts can only be shortened...

If you are going to be using your stock Nova drive shaft it will all work, just needs to be shortened.
I just called Allen, he will do it for 25.00. and as long as your driveshaft was balanced ok before, it will still be good after.
He shortened mine in my Nova. And built a couple others for other cars.

My car originally had an F-body driveshaft that was shortened, but an ear on one of the joints broke and the owner at the time went custom afterwards. That's the route I would go if money is an issue. If you can afford to, I would have one made to fit with better materials.
