Wrong water pump??

Wrong water pump?? I have a 98 fbody LS1 in a 81 C10 and my water pump was bad. I read somewhere that the Ls2 pump was slower and has less cavitation so I just got a new airtex AW5087 says it fits vehs below and shoulda know better but

Now my pulley is stickin out TOO far and only about half the belt would ride on it. There is plenty of info about swapin the other way but is there anything I can do to make this pump work or is it destine for craigslist?? Thanks for ur help guys.

Shaaaat.......thanks much. Man I wish I woulda bookmarked that page. So was I right about the LS2 pump bein "controversially better in ways? If so any modifications and anyone have the part # for the right pump? To CL she goes lol
