Default 2500 transplant

I want to know if i bought a 2000 or newer 2500 to get the 6.0/4L80E combination and full wiring harness, would it operate if i put a 1500 rear end or say a 9inch ford rearend behind it? Ex. like taking that truck and pulling the 14 bolt rear end then putting in a 6 bolt rear end in its place, i know this sounds crazy but its the easiest way to describe my future plans...

A rear differential is a rear differential (for the most part).. anything will work. So the answer would be Yes.

But what you should be asking and be more concerned with is what is size and Load capaticity of what you plan on using. How much HP/TQ and what type of driving is planned. For a daily driver, just about anything will be good enough.. but if your planning on stepping on it with any frequency, you better make sure it has the load capaticity to hold up !

thanks, ive been looking at some local wrecked vehicles and im planning on buying about a 2004 2500 to transplant into my 1950 chevy truck 3100, planning on having some fun with it! Im planning on using part of the dash and most of the factory stuff in my truck. I figured if i was able to buy a complete truck i could get everything from the fuel tank to the air conditioning systems and try to retrofit my old truck. Ive already installed a mustang II front end and boxed the frame on the old truck so it should hold up. Will be installing a four link rear hopefully soon... just not sure if i want to go with a 9 inch or 12 bolt.

50" Chevy.. Cool !...

I am sure either the 9" or 12 bolt will be fine.. Also Dana 60's is a good 3rd choice. Might be a tight fit to get all of the newer stuff into the 50'...?? Yeah. there are many kits for 4 and 3 link systems. Coil overs and all ! should be a good handling ride.

I would suggest a Vintage Air system, smaller and lighter. Are you going to swap in the Dash ?.. wold be cool, but I would like to see the original dash myself.

I want to swap in newer dash but it will definitely be different since the '50 is a lot narrower...that plan is still in the works. Just wanting something different that no one else has seen.

Forget about the 9" and 12 bolt rear ends all you need is an 8.8 out of an explorer they come with rear disc brakes, 3.73 gears, 31 spline axles and limited slip. Its easy to install the motorsport heavy duty spring in the carrier for a really reliable lsd. You can pick these up for $75 to $100 bucks at local salvage yards. Weld up the axle tubes and add a rear girdle and this rear end will handle 1000 ft lbs of torque.
