FastKat - Thanks for the information. It's a 2001 LM7 from a Silverado. The truck doesn't have A/C and so it's not a consideration right now but I'll keep the information.

Gary - So the fans are just stacked up behind the radiator? How big is your electric fan? It just fits inside the shroud?

I used one of the kits that attaches directly to the radiator with sorta zip ties. Not hi tech but they work.
I dont remember the size, but it was a big generic. They dont pull quite as much air as a name brand, ie. Spal, but they do help, especially in slow traffic conditions. Not guessing at that, my experience. But price out a dual name brand vs. a free mechanical, $50 electric, $10 in a relay and wiring. Kind of a no brainer and maybe better cooling than a dual $500 electric setup.

hogpuke,

I used a set of LS1 fans on my swap. They are tied to the PCM. Look at post 163 and greater for the install.

Not sure this will help.. but if you have any questions let me know.

Default electric fans

hello ls1tech fans. before you all go building/buying fan setups, installing etc, always remember LSX optimal engine temperature. so i've read, LSX engines run better around 220 dergees fahrenheit. it has something to do with thermal efficiency.

Crash OK -
Do you mind if I contact you regarding some of the specifics about your '72 swap? You've already done most of the push-ups that I still have in front of me! Thanks.

Where I live, you can end sitting in traffic on a regular basis. My '69 Camaro has a small block with a mechanical fan. When I'm sitting still, I can watch the temperature get higher and higher because the mechanical fan is turning at idle speed. I've been planning on replacing it with an electric fan so that it will run according to the temperature while sitting in traffic. Of course, I'm now thinking more about an LS swap, and the electric fan would be added then if not before.

Default Electric Fans

I like the idea of the mechanical fan on the engine and adding a electric fan on the front pushing air. Now if this is correct, is the mechanical fan pulling air?

Theres no need for that level of redundancy

Pick a setup that fits and rock it. FYI, theres nothing wrong with a single fan on AC, boost or other setup as long as its properly sized. If you cant figure out how to override it with the AC system, maybe you should ask someone who knows a bit more about electrical circuits
