I recommend using the search feature.
This has been done countless amounts of times with varying results.

What are your specific questions?

There are almost as many fox body swaps on here as 4th gen f bodies these days.

But chances are, as far as what you need to buy, it has been covered once or twice.

Start by buying an engine, Aje k-member with lsx mounts or a 96-04 k member.

Try different key words. Use "notch" or "fox" or "mustang", you'll end up reading for days.

Wanna get started now? Yank the stock k-member out and replace it with an aftermarket tubular piece (AJE, UPR....) then remove the stock engine harness.

Report back after you buy the engine, I'm sure you'll have more questions then, we all did.

The AJE k-member would be the first thing I would buy, as well as tubular control arms and coil overs. If its a track only car, I'm sure you will go with a manual rack, so start looking for a flaming river set up. These are things you will have to do before you even worry about dropping a motor in. More specific questions would help. What is your goal time wise for the car?

If your set on staying n/a then I would try and find a 6.0L lq4 or lq9 would be better though they cost more it will be well worth the cost diff. You will have many more cheap routes on heads that will help flow as well bump the comp. If your thinking about boost or n2o then go with the 5.3L I would run a th400 with a rev man valve body and a stall of 3500 or higher. Im building a carb'd 5.3L with n20 for a buddy now with plans to turbo/efi it later. And have a turbo 5.3L 90 notch that runs 5.90s 1/8mi myself.

There are many threads on here that will help you. Im getting ready to do the same project to an 85 Mustang and another swap into a s10 and am gonna do the mustang first. you have to pull information from each thread you read to put it all together.
As far as a list you have your basics and your more advanced and with 4,000 you probably wont be able to go far from what ive seen. but as most have said AJE or similar K member and cross member or modify your original one and factor cost of headers and motor mounts and wiring harness(or modify yours) If you make everything you need youll get further but if you buy all the stuff you may get it in the car and running with a tune for your 4,000 mark possibly just the basics that i figured for my own project was about 5500 of course i plan to swap rear end to a 8.8 or 9". The main thing is that no one on here can tell you exactly what you need to buy to make you happy and your project work. You have to do a lot of research and calling knowledgeable people so you can make your particular build work. Just my .02 though and i hope you enjoy your build and if you need anything just ask someone on here is always willing to help if you ask and as others have said the search feature is your best friend when doing a build but keep in mine no two builds are the exact same they all pose their own unique problems
***Nevermind just saw you were going carb'd well the money youd spend on harness will start with a quality carb and intake***

If your only looking to run 6's with a 200 shot, you won't have to do anything to the motor. You could put a stock 5.3 with stock manifolds and it should break into the 6's.
