Default 5.3 with 5.7 head gaskets?

This is my first post, so don't be too hard on me.

A while ago I bought what I was told is a 5.3 out of a 2009 Tahoe. The plan is to stick it in my 68 Chevy C10 that is in my garage in pieces. I got the engine and trans. bolted in where I wanted, and noticed the head gasket is stamped 5.7. It is definitely a truck motor, has the truck intake and accessories, but now I'm not so sure I know exactly what I have. Is there any way to find out what I have without pulling it apart?

I'm glad I found this forum! I know I'm going to have tons of questions when it comes time for wiring. Thanks!

Check out the sticky above (yellow colored titles) that reads "LSX engine identification". Lots of good info there. Hope your purchase works out for you.

Thanks. I read the sticky before I posted, but it is not exactly what I'm looking for. It is an iron block, aluminum head engine with AFM and DBW. From what I understand, there never was a 5.7 with these features, which is why I am confused about the 5.7 stamp on the head gaskets.

i have the same engine its a 5.3 lmg i am putting it in a 69 nova. the head gaskets are the same as the 5.7 the bore of a 5.3 is 96mm and a 5.7 is 99mm(i think) so gm uses the same gaskets. the block should say 5.3/4.8 on the front driver side. in the picture it says 5.3L IV on mine and so should yours. also there was no iron 5.7 only aluminum. do you plan to use the afm feature? if you have any more questions i was try to help if i can.

Thanks for the info, I was worried I got scammed. I hope to use the AFM since I plan on making this a daily driver. Still have a ways to go though.

I'm using an ls9 head gasket on my 4.8 for a turbo build. I think you should be ok. Not saying any 5.7 head gasket would work remember that early version ls1 And truck motors don't use mls gaskets. And have different design
