Default Speedhut Tach PSI harness?

I need some help with this one guys. Speedhut tach has a single yellow wire and my PSIconversion harness has a single white wire for the tach. I'm not getting any readings on the tach. I've tried a few of the different pulses per rev settings but haven't gotten anything.

If anyone knows anything I could use the help. Thanks!

I'm guessing you have the tach's power wires all hooked up?
Maybe speedhut will be able to help on Monday.

Yep everything is hooked up. I've tried every cycle from 1/2 rev per cycle up to the max setting of 6 revs per cycle and can't get any signal. Strange... I did see one thread about adding in a 680 ohm resistor into the tach signal line and feeding the other side of the resistor with 12v. I will wait for more info before I try that though.

Hmm. I hope that isn't necessary, would kind of defeat the point of buying the fancy new gauges.

Thanks TTA, that's the thing speedhut says that there is no need to spend extra on a tach adapter. They claim theirs can accommodate every type of engine.

you just need to wire in a pull up resistor

No not yet. Speedhut is evidently not interested in giving a customer tech support after a sale... I have sent them 2 emails this week asking for any help with the problem and I have not heard back. If it was an option to call during the day I would but I can't.

I'm probably just going to try the resistor trick but I wanted to be sure I wasn't going to fry something in the process. It looks like that shouldn't be an issue so I'm just going to have to try it and hope for the best. Not sure if I will get to it tomorrow or not but if I do I will post the results.

I'm also interested in an answer for this.

As a side note, when I snipped and tried splicing the AC illumination wires into a DC source (didn't know it was an inverter and AC-illuminated at the time), and the gauge stopped working, I got an immediate email response and offer to have the gauge returned/fixed/replaced no questions asked... hopefully you get a response soon, I think their customer support is reputable enough to warrant it!

I looked up that inverter on the SH site, I didn't realize that the gauge lighting is running at 200v AC. It would be nice if they would include that info in their instructions, glad they took care of you. I wonder if something got fried on the board from the 12v DC being applied?

As for the tach, today I got it fixed. I did use the pull up resistor to fix it. My local Radioshack only had 1k ohm 1/4 watt resistors so that is what I used. Ended up setting the tach to 2 pulses per rev (4cyl setting) which is the 2k rpm setting when you go through the choices on the tach. Next up I need to install the Autometer adapters for the oil psi and temp sensors so I can get those gauges working. Thanks everyone!
