Default T-56 Newb questions

I just got my T-56 from a 2002 TA off the loading dock at work. I have 3 questions right away: 1) where can I go to decode the ID tag that is attached to the transmission? 2) can't get into reverse so I assume that there is a reverse lockout...what can be done to get in to reverse? 3) does any one sell a sheet metal tunnel for my ls1/t-56 1972 nova swap or is this just something I'll have to chop up?

Thanks in advance!

The reverse lockout solenoid requires 12V to move it into reverse. It has 2 wires coming off of it, polarity doesn't matter. Hook one wire up to ground and the other wire to your brake lights so it'll only go into reverse if your foot is on the brakes.

1) http://www.ttcautomotive.com/English...B05007_147.pdf

2) on the bench, just pull the 13mm bolt holding the Rev-lock solenoid on the LHS of the shifter mount. The solenoid will pop out after some rotations to loosen the o-ring seal.

3) Not my area, but if you search around here you'll find most (all?) the swaps DIY'ing the tunnel mod..

Any switched 12v will activate the Reverse Solenoid, as stated you can use your brake light switch. I just used a Hurst Line Lock switch on the shifter.

Default Reverse Lock Out module

There is a company out there now that has a stand alone module that plugs in place of the factory harness and does what the PCM did from the factory. Solenoid is "locked out" at anything above 5 mph to avoid a 6th to 5th disaster.

I purchased the module but haven't installed it #not at that point yet# but it looks like a really nice piece. Extra long wires and great directions so you can mount it just about anywhere. PM me and I'll send you the link to the web site.

my T56 will go into reverse on the bench, without any power to this module. I even removed mine, and put an expansion plug in the hole, to gain clearance in the tranny tunnel.
You might try turning the input shaft by hand as you try reverse. These trannys are hard to get the shifter over to reverse, if not fastened down to something.

Yes you can over power the lock out. I can be hard but as stated above you may need to spin the input shaft to get it lined up.
