Default 3 motor mounts compared side by side

If this has been discussed already I apologize but thought it would help fellow swappers out.

I have the energy suspension plate first, hooker stock location plate second and dirty dingo misfits 3rd. Short and wide or tall and narrow will equal the same height do motor mounts don't play into height equation (unless you use short/wide frame stands and tall/narrow motor mounts)

The ES plate as measured from the bolt that will go into the block to bottom hole on motor mount is 4.5 inches. The hooker stock location mount using the same measurement was 5 3/4". Meaning the Hooker mount will place the motor further back in the engine bay 1 1/4 inches. Here's the pic of the ES plate and then the hooker plate.

As far as height the ES and Hooker plate were the exact same height where as the dirty dingo was 1/4 inch taller. I didn't measure the dingo placement of the motor mount because they allow you to slide the motor forward or back to where you need it. Here's the height picture.

Part numbers are as follows

ES kit with plates and motor mounts was 3-1148G

Hooker stock location plates only 12611hkr

Dirty dingo plates with solid mounts DD-62510L (they are not pictured, but same concept)

Looking up the info on the ES plate and motor mount kit and they do not tell you they set the motor forward 1 1/4 inches. Hope this info helped.

This is a decision I am going to have to make pretty soon. Maybe it depends on which headers you buy? I only hope to purchase the motor mounts once.

I read on the topic for a long time. What seems to work consistently is Hooker headers and stock location hooker plates. 2 things everyone seems to deal with in this set up is A) motor too low in chassis and people making their own plates to go under the frame stands and 2) re drilling holes in the crossmember to set the engine back.

I'm hoping I can kill two birds with one stone with the DD plates. Raise it and push it back to where I need. The part number for the DD plates I gave is for solid plates/mounts in one. Which doesn't solve the height issue. But DD does sell ls swap mounts with 2 plates like the ones I pictured.

Here's what I'm talking about. These are DD LS swap mounts that use standard poly or rubber sbc motor mounts.

And here are the solid DD LS swap mounts. 1 plate, so even though you can move the motor forward and back to where you want, you still have a height issue.

Yes, I am looking at those too. Though they are a little more expensive they may save problems or headaches in other areas. I hope they fit my 1965 Buick Skylark.

Well I just bolted eveything to the engine and set it in the hole then measured and drilled new holes in the frame and botled everything tight. It worked very well, I was not about to buy 2 or 3 sets of adapter plates.

1 set is a buddies I'm helping do his swap, just thought I'd help do a compare while they're out.

I'm using the DD mounts because I like the idea of sliding the motor forward a few inches and having easy acess to the trans bolts if I have to drop the trans some day.

I too am in process of buying plates for my car. I don't even have the frame mounts yet. My car had a 6cyl so Im gonna have to buy new frame mounts. Apparently there are 3 different kinds of frame mounts. Any idea which ones to get?
BTW, its a 71 Pontiac Ventura, same as a Nova

I'm also going from a 68 6 cylinder nova to ls and wondering what stands would be best to buy.

Good comparison & pics!
Jumping back & forth to compare individual threads & recommendations is more difficult for those who are just beginning their swap.

Well in my 70 I changed from a SBC to a BBC and used the same mounts. So when I put the LS in I again used the same mounts with the adapter plates. There are pics in my build thread.

I just ordered the sliders. I am not sure where I need the motor to sit so this will give me some options. Hope the 1/4 higher works.

It's a TT LS in a 66 Nova with 4l80e. Would like to run a/c on the pass low side.

-sbc vs bbc frame stands-

on some cars with bbc stands- the stands are different height
I forget which car, but I'd guess camaro/nova due to steering box clearance. - I had several A and different gen F bodies so I don't recall which is which.

So I plan on buying sbc stands to replace the 6 cyl stuff I have currently.

I've also seen guys cut and weld the stock 4th gen stuff in.
