ls in 71 stepside

ls in 71 stepside trying to connect elec speedo and tach tn my 71 chevy truck whitch has a 02 4.8 ls. My problem is after connecting to the the two wires provided on the computer, my truck will not start. even after cutting the wires i connected,it still wont fire
