Default Head question

Alright I just got a lq4 genIII going to rebuild as a lq9 for a swap into a c3 corvette. I thought about getting some L92 heads but now I'm thinking maybe 243's. Question stems from the fact that the 317's I have are essentially 243's with bigger cc's. The question is how much (REAL WORLD) horse power is to be expected with 243's to up compression over porting my 317's I already have??? There is a lot of disussion about this head is better for this and that and milling to bump compression so on and so on.... I was curious what would be better on a budget minded build with power goal of 400-450 rwhp?? nothing too radical just a fun ride

I would just run the L92/LS3 heads and LS3 intake. Be better off and you can get them already cnc pretty cheap. I seen stock L92/LS3 at one point for $800 bucks each little more for the CnC versions though.

Better head and intake to begin with.

I realize that the ls3 stuff is better overall I was just curious if I should spend the $ on heads if it's not needed for the power goals I have or should I just keep the 317's and spend the $ on other stuff for my swap?? Again I'm not building a drag car just want a fairly potent and reliable street machine if the 317's will get me there then I will keep them

Might just go with some 243 as it will give you higher CR to begin with. Be cheaper or used units and since the newer heads have came out the used price has really dropped.

I doubt you would see 400-450 rear HP with stock 317's maybe with 243's 93 gas great tune and nasty cam you could.

Search over in the Gen III section as there was a thread on this very thing.

LS3 heads are way cheaper than that. I paid $630 for the pair of mine, brand new, fully assembled. Pick up some intake rockers, stands and a mild cam and you're well on your way to 450+ HP.

You can sell the 243's and recoup a big chunk of the money
