Engine temps, trapped air? I'm putting a LM7 into a 56 ford truck.. just finishing up some of the last details.
starts, runs, still need to get fan to turn on..
some fluid comes out the steam vent hose..
connected inline above the top waterpump outlet
the passenger side head is about 180 degrees (laser temp gauge). (above/between the front exhaust ports)
the drivers side is around 240.. water temp at the top pump outlet is 135.
so, is the driver side vent outlet plugged?
when I take it apart, are there orings under the steam vent fittings?
whats the right way to clear the clog (if it is clogged)?

The steam tube gaskets are reusable like everything else on the engine.
I always have to bleed the heads at the steam tube ports to get all the air out. Loosen the bolts, pull the tube away from the head, and add coolant until it comes out the hole. Then start the engine and pull the tubes up every so often until you stop getting air.

If you are measuring temps on the outside of the head then I don't think you can tell much of anything from that.
I have read posts of people who found those vent clogged up. The vent plugs are sealed with an O ring so don't be afraid to pull them whenever. It is a straight shot into the head, so I would think a piece of welding wire or similar should knock loose any crud that might be in there.
