I don't know how much bigger the 4l80 is compared to the T56, but the T56 is a tight fit, any bigger I would think cutting and welding of the drive tunnel would have to be done. For the T56 to fit I had to beat in a 2 inch section where the tunnel about an inch in to clear bell housing, then on the tail section I had to beat in slightly to clear it. If I could look through my list of thread subscriptions I could tell you who already has one in their 240 so you could ask him what he did, but I can't right now.

it all depends on what kit you use.. i made my own mounts and used fueled oil pan. granted im using the t56 and next to no clearance was needed. my engine sits super low. maybe try to find a comparison of the t56 and 4l80e online. But there is no real way to tell until you get the engine in. I however would highly suggest the t56.

any other mount kit you had to hammer up to 2 inchs to clear the bell.. here is a pick of a t56 next to 4l60, remember the 4l80 is even bigger. so im guessing cutting of tunnel would be a must

Thank you guys. I know t56 would be much easier to do. I just think having an automatic would be great at the drag strip. Not so much worry with breaking the axles, & overall much less wear. Use 3 gears at the track & the 4th on the highway going home. 200-4r is smaller, lighter but old tech. I'll end up with t56. Will just have to get a biefier rear. I'm very, very good at power shifting BUT the trans, clutch & linkage has to be perfect. That part could drive me crazy & ruin a good swap I'm looking to match trans to the LS 525 h.p. factory crate engine. Thanks again. Any good shops?

the j30 rear diff have been holding plenty of power in these ls1 240 swaps.

its mainly the axles i would worry about at extremely high horsepower.. but then again thats just about any car on the strip.

but i figured you wanted the auto for drag. just figure out what mounts your going to use and then cut the tranny tunnel. get everything mounted up and then weld a new hump. Not to hard actually.

I was thinking about having to do that.
