Default power steering question

I'm getting an aftermarket clip for my 66 Nova. It's going to come with a power rack and pinion. Can I just get lines made for my ls pump to the rack? Will it work fine that way?

Modular turbo design makes braided lines i used for my ls swap. They are an fittings obviously

You should be able to find some AN fitting, adapters and teflon braided hoses if you want to go aftermarket.. (Earl's, Russell, Aeroquip, etc)

Since a 4th gen F-Body LS1 is a R/P setup, the lines might be close enough to use, if not, you can ways get a local shop that does Hyd hoses and fitting to make you up a set.

You just need to make sure the pump is within pressure spec's for the R/P.

bczee is correct......there are many LS stlye pumps out there and depending upon which pump you get, they range from 2 GPM to 3.5GPM and run between 1100 PSI and 1700 PSI....the Mustang Rack likes to be in the 2 GPM and 900 PSI zone........So......there are kits for bleeding off pressure from the pump ( Borgeson) and by-pass valves (Heidt's)........Getting everything to match and work correctly is pretty much a trial and error effort........With the Volume and Pressure mismatch, the car will be very "Twitchy" on the highway......Also the mustang II racks are normally 2 1/2 turns lock to lock.......another option is an 85 T-Bird rack which works at 2 GPM and 1100 PSI.......It's 3 turns lock to lock........Good Luck

Also keep in mind with the the high pressure, you MUST get specific power steering AN fittings AND lines otherwise it wouldn't be pretty.

I use the Russell ENDURA Power-Flex Power Steering Hose Ends(AN) and their Teflon Line SS Braided hose.. I can handle the High Pressure and heat that a Power Steering system will generate.

I would make a pressure line from an old PS line and save yourself a bunch of money. Start with a line/hose that fits the rack, make a piece that fits the pump, and then have a Parker store (or other hydraulic fitting store) put the two together for a couple bucks. I prefer having my power steering lines made at the local industrial hydraulic hose supplier. I installed AN (JIC) adapters into the steering box (you can do the same with your rack) and into the power steering pump pressure side. Once the fittings are standardized, simply figure out the configuration of hose that you need and get them made.
