alternator fix?
so here i am pissed off to say the least. i want to know what you think of this idea. i have pics of this adventure if someone will help me post them if not use your imagination or something i guess.... i took a smaller wire and wired it to the field wire inside the alternator, then ran that wire to a old school style external voltage regulator. hooked the regulator up how its supposed to be and tadaa! charging at 14.2 volts at idle and no higher than 14.5 volts with some revs... it sounded normal when charging and the alternator did get hot or show signs of "full fielding". i used this setup when i hacked together a turbocharged neon and it worked like a champ. will it last, im not sure... thats what warranties are for lol
The alternator needs a 5v reference signal to turn on, just like all the other sensors. I tapped into the IAT sensor power for mine. 12v will kill the circuits in there quick. I burnt through two like that.
