Default 6.0L broken starter tab

Does anyone know of a solution for a broken starter tab on a cast iron 6.0L? I found a deal on one with low miles but not sure if it can be usable.

Thx,
Lee

Get a new block...welding on cast iron is tough and would never be as strong as originally, but it can be done

We offer the 6.0 in our TMS 370CI short block with a 1 year unlimited mileage warranty for $1999. This is a great worry free way to get a reliable new motor in your vehicle. Feel free to call or email with any questions.
Thank you,

I've seen circle track transmissions that put the start behind the motor next to the trans. Probably not something for the street and I imagine not cheap.

If the block was aluminum it could have been fixed pretty readily.

I wonder if something like that could be brazed successfully. It is not like that is a structural part of the motor.

What do you guys think about drilling throught the broken tab and and taping the block so the tab could be bolted back on. That a possible option?

Thanks guys!

A good welder can fix cast iron and it will hold. I know of a welder who repairs cast iron transmission housings regularly and almost never has any returns. The part must be pre heated well and allowed to cool slowly along with having a skilled welder using the correct welding rod. If you can buy the block cheap enough that selling the rest of the parts would re-coup most of your cost I would say find yourself a good welder and go for it.

I agree with pist0lpete about a good welder. Just in the past year CarCrat or HotRod did an article on this topic and they too stated that when done with proper preheating/post heating that this can be done successfully. Ask around and find a good welder.

The turbo guys cut and weld cast iron truck exhaust manifolds all the time so maybe do some research there too.
