Default Need help with wiring situation

Okay so I'm currently underway building my '71 chevelle and I'm at the point where i am not sure what to do about the wiring situation. It's a 98 ls1 out of a Camaro that is matched up to a munice 4speed. I have the original wiring harness but not the ECM. At first I was thinking of going the painless way but apparently it is not that easy to tune. So I am open to advice and would like some help. I want do this the easiest way possible I do not enjoy wiring!

Try psiconversions on here. They seem to have some really good deals on wiring/ecus.

You can make the original wiring harness work with any LS1 ECM that has the red/blue connectors. Try to find an F-body ECM from 99 to 2002. You will have to modify the stock harness. Print out a wiring diagram for the 98 and for the donor ECM and then make the harness match the pins for the ECM.

The wiring is very easy if you take your time and double check yourself. PM me I have 98 fbody schematics.

As Chevy406 suggested, get a 99 and up PCM / ECM. The 98 can be problematic (if you research you will find others in the past find problem in Tuning using the 98 PCM.

Once you have the PCM to start, you can then move on to the wiring harness. There are a few wiring differences between the 98 and 99+. But nothing that can not be repinned and wired up.

Hit up one of the sponsor ( PSI or Speartec) to help you out for the wiring and if the have the, the PCM for mail order tune to get you started ( flash out the codes for the VATS, smog, etc).

Good lunch with the project, keep us posted.

Would agree with that said above on the 98 PCM. I would recommend upgrading to the 99-02 411 PCM. Well worth it. Give us a call with questions if you have any.

Okay, thank you so far for the guidance. Now I'm not looking to throw anyone under the buss or call anyone out but I recieved a PM from gree96ta, was wondering of anyone has worked with him before or had the harness altered by him. The more I research the more I am beginning to understand that there are multiple people on ls1tech that will modify your stock harness and flash your ecu, which seems to have worked well for many.
