Default GEN III or IV: Which engine?

I am building a 1930's car to be used as a daily driver/cruiser, with a modern drive train and chassis: Stock looking old car (RestoMod??)

I want to use a Vortec 5.3L, stock engine, and my options are:

1. 2006-07 GEN III, LM7/L57 with a 4L60e
2. 2008-09 GEN IV, LY5/LMG, (AFM) with a 4L60e
3. 2010-11 GEN IV, LMG (AFM and VVT), with a 6L80e

Is it worth spending a little more (over GEN III), to get a GEN IV and AMF ??
And, if the price was right, further upgrade to a GEN IV with both AFM and VVT, and the 6-speed tranny ??

This car will be a keeper and I will run the engine stock.

Opinions please !

all of those motors are Gen IV motors which you cant go wrong with unless you have limited tranny tunnel space, then the 6l80e may give you problems.

it may actually help you out to have DBW due to the possible weird angle your throttle cable could be at with at DBC setup.

there is tons of info in this section. do lots of reading, and when you think your set, do a little more reading. when you are done that, rinse and repeat. you will be able to make a well informed decision after this and when you do, good luck sir.

I would go with the gen 3 motor if it has the 243/799 heads. It is a lot easier not having to deal with AFM and gen 3 stuff is typically cheaper to build even though a lot of the parts are interchangeable.

SE-R Spec I did not realize how huge the 6L80e is, and it would cause problems with my build...heavy too, over 200# wet.

I guess VVT is out also, as the 10-11 LMG seems paired only to the 6L80

wildcamero, I was thinking that buying a GEN IV for the 243/799 heads, 58x crank sensor and AFM/DOD would be a benefit, performance, tuning and mileage wise.

Given the foregiong, seems the choices are the L33, LY5 or the early LMG ( Iron block to save $).
