Newbie Ls1 motor help Hi im new to this forum , i found it via google search.
im sure you hear this all the time but
First off i have 1998 k1500 suburban body is great so is frame but the motor is shot. Anyway i browsing craigslist and came across a good deal on a low miles 5.7 ls1 longblock out of a 2000 trans am. What exactly part wise would i need to get this to work on my truck? What are some general mods i need to do.

I'm trying to remember what year they changed the engines in the trucks. 97 or 99. If it's a throttle body 350 vortech, it's almost completely different and closer to the LT1 platform.
If it's a newer 4800 or 5.3L then you should be golden. Should be a direct swap. Not sure if you can direct swap the PCM's though. The newer engines all have the same sensor locations, for the most part, and those are pretty damn simple, IMO.. Can you get the harness for the LS1? it will need a tune. Not thinking it'll run with a 4.8L tune. A 5.3L tune may be possible.

you can make it work, but its going to be a lot of work. you would be better off to go with a full 4.8/5.3/6.0 truck pullout (motor/trans/t-case) and all the accessories/wiring and just do a full swap.
That long block is going to need a bunch of parts and the small nickel and dime items really add up fast

just for why not .. what would i actually need to do? i know i need a torque convertor to make my tranny work with it. Will the motor mounts line up? im assuming i need to get a different ECU and potentially a differerent harness.. anything elsE?
harness/ecu, all the sensors, intake, injectors, throttle body, fuel rail, coil packs and brackets, all the belt driven accessories minus the waterpump, motor mount adapters, either headers/manifolds. That should cover most of it.
On top of that you will have to change your fuel system around some and probably change out pumps depending on what kind of pressure the Vortec 5.7 runs.
