ok so today i got a full exhuast sytem built and as i was driving home the car starting to act up (no guages hooked up yet) stalling, dying, running funny. I park it, let it cool down and fire it back up. i get it on the freeway and get it home. when i get home i changed the thermostat, water pump and do a coolant full flush. The car is throwing these codes.

p0480
p0481
p1258

they have something to do with the cooling fan but the fan runs as soon as i cycle the key and stays on the entire time. It is a single 14" in front of a large radiator. Im a bit lost at this point and know nothign abou these engines or gassers in general. Im hoping i didnt blow a head gasket or crack the heads. the temperature did reach 284 at some point according to my data log.

Btw i just bought this car and swap was already done.

going to check the oil and do a compession test in the morning to see if this motor is even worth a ****

Well I figured out it was just air trapped in the block. I burped it out and it seems to be running at 200 degrees. Is this normal for these motors? Do they generally run this hot?

Perfectly normal depending on the t-stat. Mine runs ~190 when moving and between 190 and 220 in traffic.

Post up some pictures when you get a chance.

Yeah.. I've got a 180 T-Stat and adjusted my fans.. moving is like 180 but in slow and hot traffic.. 190-215..

if you are using the OEM Fan setting. they don't come on till like in the 227/low and 235/high or something like that.. so these engine were designe do be running hot for Emission reason.
