Exclamation Need help fast!!!!

I removed the water jacket fitting (for the oil cooler) from the left side of my LS3 block in order to replace it with a brass plug. It was very difficult to get out and once I got it out I found out why. Either it was cross-threaded when it was installed or not enough sealent was put on it to prevent it from galling the threads. Either way, I can't install the brass plug. I've thought about trying to tap it, but it's a huge hole, 28mm x 1.25 threads (please check me on this). Any tips or suggestions? Thanks in advance.

I'd say tap and plug it. I've never seen a LS motor strip out like that though.

Thanks. I think it happened because the fitting and the block are aluminum and they didn't put any anti-sieze on it. It only ruined the first 3 or 4 threads, but I'm not sure how the tap will start and I don't want to ruin the good threads.
