Cool Junk Yard - Craigslist 5.3L

A little motivational video here for you all.

Shows you what you can get for $350 ;-)

There are still great deals out there to be had.

Under valve covers look like new with zero sludge or varnish build up.

Cleaned the injectors as they had been sitting fo a year and were stuck closed.

Boiled them in water for 10 minutes, rinsed and repeated. Blew them out with shop air, re-installed them and it fired right up.

This one is going into the Infinity that we installed a 5.7L last month. Ended up having a bad rod knock in the 5.7L, so we went searching craigslist and found this one near Kc, KS.

Plans are for a Z06 cam and LS6 springs.

Yeh, Seller guy bought a roll over Yukon and parted it out. He saved the engine and trans for his project that never materialized.

Here is a day time video ;-)

Swap'd out the factory PCM for a Microsquirt tonight. Loaded a generic LS1 file and set the injector size and engine size. Hooked up a fuel pump and it fired right up.

Can you comment on the advantages of the microsquirt from your perspective?

Thx!

Real time tuning of fuel and spark while the engine is running is my biggie. Next is the fact that the software is free so no credits to buy or special interface. Total cost using junk yard harness connectors is less than $400. Throw in a cam and tuning is still simple as well as wideband o2 sensor input allows exact fuel map tuning. Another feature is auto tune. It self tunes the fuel table to bring fuel ratios to commanded afr. It works with naturally aspirated as well as boosted engines. It also works on any lsx based engine or most every other us and foreign engines. Make any change to the engine and retuning is still free and easy.
