Default ZR2 with an LS1

This summer I am pulling the piggy 4.3 out of my ZR2 and installing a 2000 LS1. I plan to convert the LS1 4L60E into a 4x4 with the parts from my 1995 4L60E. Any tips on that would be great. I'm gonna be doing this build SUPER budget. I plan to only come out of pocket no more than $500. I know I'm gonna get some flames for that but after numbers are done, and parts are sold I plan to be well under budget. Here's the basic rundown and ill have pics soon.

engine- 2002 5.7 with LS7 lifters and new gaskets
Exhaust- f body manifolds with flanges cut off
DBC harness and PCM from an 02 formula
Mounts- solid fab'd from 3/16" steel
Oil pan- truck style (I just may get the Milodon 4x4 pan)
Accessories- truck with a pre vortec AC bracket for the 95 AC compressor
Cooling-recessed radiator, huge trans cooler and ls1 fans
Trans- stock rebuilt 4x4 trans with a huge cooler and crossed fingers

Any criticism or tips gimme a holler

Everything sounds OK but 5/16 is stupid overkill for motor mounts. I use 3/16 and 1/8 plate with Jeep Wrangler poly spring eye bushings in .120 tube. These are for an extremely abusive application, rock racers that get chassis G'ed out constantly and slammed into boulders at speed without even slowing down.

Here's a pic of my last car. You can see the motor mount with the bushing. This was all .120 (1/8") plate.

I have a truck pan complete with windage tray and I think the dipstick too, I don't need it. If you want it, let me know.

So metal thickness is duely noted. I don't plan to make monster power (but that's how every build starts I guess). Will a 3/16" base and 1/8" walls work? I will add gussets where possible/necessary. Also the other reason I would like to over build the mounts is they will be solid. Now before everyone freaks out about losing their fillings and vertebrae, i had a WS6 with an MS4 @ 110 LSA with UMI solids and the vibration was minimal. The ZR2 mounts don't provide for a lot of options as they are solid points built into the frame.

I'm having a hell of a time with the oil pan ordeal. On one hand I can use a truck pan and ditch the IFS (Dana 44) or build/buy a pan to work with the ifs front diff. Anyone have any ideas? What sump and windage tray are used with the Milodon sheet metal pan?

Look up the GM performance muscle car oil pan kit, can be had for around $150.

That oil pan wont work without modification. It's 4wd and it wont clear the diff. Hence his conundrum.

I'm not positive but I think moroso may make one.

I noticed you didn't mention anything about the fuel system. Definitely should look into that.

Do you already have the engine?

Got the engine. It's a 2002 LS1. I'm rounding third base with the long block assembly. I will be a stock long block with LS7 lifters, truck intake and accessories. I'll be starting the harness this weekend. Lots of pics to come

Lol your headers are nice Tom but that's a lot of money to assume they will fit. I'm just gonna build a set or use f body manifolds

I have done this exact swap with a l33 5.3 motor. If you have any questions at all feel free to pm me.

However, I used a current performance harness and reflashed my 2001 s10 ecm. Plus I ditched ac all together.

As for oil pans, the only one that will fit is the Milodon pan. This is the one I have. I would stay away from that though if possible. It took them over 8 weeks to get my pan to me after several phone calls and speaking with the vice president of the company. Plus I have fitment issues with the remote oil filter system as the inlet/outlet built into the pan does not have enough clearance to screw fittings onto... Best bet is to modify a stock truck pan (if you can weld aluminum) or have Moroso custom fab you one.

Also note that the lsx 4l60e bellhousing is about 1 inch longer than the one on the 4.3 (from measuring the bellhousing on my silverado).
