Quick question. Did the 4L80 fit the tunnel right or did you need to "massage" it a bit?

Awesome build you have here. Keep it up!!

It fit fine. I was going to add an inch to the tunnel to get the pan above the frame rails, but would have had to raise the engine too.

How about the driveshaft? Is it the right lenght or too long for this application?
If I'm not mistaken, the 4L80 is a bit longer than the 4L60...

Hows it drive with the 2.73 rear end? I did some math, and with stock wheels it should be pretty close to how the tahoes are set up with tall tires and a shorter rear end. I swapped the olds rear out for a caprice wagon rear cause the olds had a 10 bolt cover and a 12 bolt carrier, impossible to find any gears let alone hard parts for other then bearings. The chevy estate rear I got is a 10 bolt carrier in a 10 bolt housing, so if I need to I can probably get gears. Stupid Buick Olds Pontiac then chevy and its all the same and different...thanks GM haha

Should be gettin a motor in a few weeks so I can start this project!

I haven't done a ton of driving it yet. I was waiting on carpet and warmer weather. I might install it in the next week or two now that it is getting into the 40s here.

I got a set of truck rally wheels that I blasted and need to paint up. I went with a 235/70/15 which is exactly 28". In the few test drives I've done, it wouldn't blow the tires off, but maybe it won't with such a low gear and stock engine?

Its prolly like driving a stock tahoe, not fast but enough power for a DD and it will pass someone if you need it to. Dont know how much you drove one with a stock 307, oof..what a disaster of an engine. The TBI I have in there isnt much better either...just not enough...then again the TBI doesn't have big enough exhaust on it which doesn't help.

Up and running pretty much. I need to wrap the wiring under the hood after I get the interior done. I have all the carpet and the sound deadening, just need to get the time to do it.

I am probably going to be changing it out for a Magnaflow. It sounds great at idle, but I think there might be a loose baffle in it. I rattles pretty badly sometimes. Not resonates, but an actual rattle sound.

REALLY wish these forums would index or hash the photos uploaded from other sites and keep even low rez copies locally. Im bummed not being able to see the awesomeness here. I am in the parts allocation stage of my 89 caprice wagon lq4/l80e build. got the car, waiting on taxes, and its off to the races.

Hoping you might still be around, I might have to lean on yah for a question or two

Build SOUNDS awesome! hope it finished up to your expectations.

I didn't move the crossmember back, just chopped the center section out and flipped it around.
