I remember that one as it was a bone stock 500 from a mid seventies
Eldorado. Factory rated at a pathetic 180-190 HP. The magazine geeks had
to chop the firewall, build a doghouse, and make subframe conectors to
hold the weight of the engine and deal with the 420 ft./lbs. of torque that a
4.300" X 4.300" square engine made. Most don't know that a big caddy only
weighs 75 lbs. more than a gen I sbc. That Chevette had like a 3.55
geared Ford 8" rear from a Mustang II that they had laying around. They also
hung a 2.5" turbo muffler off the factory Y-pipe. Changed only the oil and
filter and left the spark plugs, cap, rotor, etc....hilarious !! IIRC this budget
pile (on 26.0 x 8.0 MTs) ran a 12.29 at LACR which sits at 3000 ft. and
altitude corrected to an 11.98.
