Try fastenal they are a chain of stores that deal in construction equipment and have stores all over you can get a shipping quote from store to store you need the weight and size of the object you are shipping for the quote. You should be able to find a store some what close to you and the person you are shipping from. I shipped 4 wheels and tires for 100 bucks. I also would lean toward a truck engine myself as even if you buy a complete engine with acc. they are old enough that they may need replaced soon anyway. I also prefer the iron block as they are less expensive to rebuild. As far as intakes go you could always go with a carb intake and 4150 style throttle body so you can keep a stock type air cleaner.

I would go with the 6.0 over the 5.3 because you will have more torque to move your car. I put a 5.3 in my 1992 chevy pickup but I wish I would have went 6.0 for the torque. You get a lot better gas mileage then your suburban. My 05 gto used to get 19 mpg on the average, highway was 26 mpg.

Really leaning toward the 6.0 now. I am also looking at a T56 from a viper that has been converted for an LSx application for a pretty good price. Now the dilemma seems to be mechanical (trans is set up for this) or hydraulic clutch? Both seem to have pros and cons.
Back to the 6.0, though, would the LQ4 or LQ9 be the better route? I know the difference is Aluminum heads, but is it worth the price difference?

I have 100% decided to go with a lq9 in my fox swap when I start for these simple facts

1. Cheap as hell to get ahold of
2. More torque
3. I plan to turbo it so the iron block I'll need/want anyway

Now I can't and won't comment on the trans other than an auto will be the simplest and easiest install. But I totally understand the fun factor. I myself want an auto lol.

Pretty sure only the 99-00 LQ4 had iron heads. They also had a longer crank that wont work with a manual trans.

Look at www.freightquote.com , I have used them many times in the past. Be aware that you are shipping "salvage parts" as the tarrif code is much lower.

Lq9s have more compression than lq4s via flat top pistons. More compression = more power.

Thanks for the Fastenal recommendation. Best price on shipping by far. Made that Viper T56 if was looking at a lot more do able. Now to find a motor.
Is around $1500 for a complete LQ9 assembly with around 80K miles too high? I know people say you can get them for about $700-900 but the ones I see in AZ all have a boat load of miles on them. I am really wanting to start this build!!

The higher hp LQ9s really are fetching a premium these days. No one is getting a complete LQ9 under $1k any more. That price is not too bad if it's a complete takeout waranteed. Be sure to get everything with it....ecu, harness, tac, pedal, accessories, etc. from the same vehicle.
Also, make sure it doesn't come with the adjustable accelerator pedal assembly. They tend to be problematic.
