Got some more done on the car, Got the engine dropped in, as well as the tranny. Fit like a glove. I think the the tunnel on this car was made for the 4L80E.

I can see that the headers I have aren't going to work though, as I have big time clearance issues with the PS box. Looks like it's time to pick up some LS3 Camaro manifolds.

Pretty smooth though. Put it in and everything lined up, bolted it up, moved the cross member, and I'm ready to get the drive shaft shortened.

Glad to see the progress! That thing looks mean in there...even with the "truck" intake.

Thanks Dave!
I kinda like the ugliness of the truck intake too. Something a little different anyway.

I think the Dynatech 67-69 headers are the ones that are known to fit. The Dirty Dingo slide mounts might have helped out a little in this situation to allow you to move things a bit to get the headers to work. Now would be the time to think about it if you plan on adding power in the future because the headers are a nice performance upgrade.

If you are leaving the engine stock, I think 2 1/4 tails will work fine. If you plan on upgrading the cam/heads and need a dyno tune, that will be a good time to change to 2 1/2 tails.

Dynatech 67-69 Camaro headers, correct. I have them on my '65. They clear the steering box perfectly. The downside is they do hang lower than I would like. I have my engine raised some though, so on my car it's not much of an issue. A friend of mine has a '65 Impala too, and he has the same headers on his 6.2. He says he doesn't scrape anywhere, but we measured and they are only about 2.5" from the ground.

Are your 2 1/4 pipes mandrel bent? If not, upgrade the tailpipes. I believe they will be a restriction. I just took off some 2 1/4 tails on my 68 Impala and they are severely restricted in the bends by the over the axle portion.
Thanks going to order this tomorrow at O riellys for my 71 Chevy truck with 4l80e install.

Nicke-

What motor mount adapters did you use? Did you have to move it forward and if so how much?

Also it would be helpful to know how much you raised the engine (if you did). I plan to use similar headers and run air ride on mine so I don't want to be sitting down on them.

I might run that last header clearance question pays superdave also since he made mention of raising his engine...

Yep! I got my LS3 Camaro exhaust manifolds, so now I need to fab up the exhaust and add the o2 ports to the down pipes.

I also took your advice and will be running -6an braided black nylon stainless hose throughout for the fuel system. That arrives this week.

I have also puled out the old fuel tank and have the other one mocked into place. The original straps (although I bought new ones) were 2" too short, so I'll be picking up longer carriage bolts to make up the difference.
I also got the floor shifter linkage figured out and shifting really smoothly. I was able to use the same rod that was once on the powerglide, then on my 200-4r.

Once I button up those few things, its on to wiring!

Nick-

Do you have pictures of the distance from the side of the engine to the power steering box?

I ask because I don't think mine is the stock set up and want to double check. Plus I think I bought the exact same headers you did....

But if my power steering box is smaller I might be able to make it work?.?.? Let me know if you took any pics of that side of the engine.

Thanks!

I dont, but I will get you some pics tonight. I have the stock power steering box (well, a 12.7-1 ratio box, but the stock size), and the second tube from the back went right into the box.
Maybe later I'll drop big money for some headers, when I do a cam swap, but for now, the manifolds will work for me!

Next step, installing the fuel system. I took superdave84's advice and am running -6an braided black nylon stainless line throughout (rated to 1100 PSI max). I should have it plumbed by the weekend.

You're gonna love that stuff. WAY easier than the steel braided lines. There's no fighting the fittings at all...they just go right on. Plus no bloody fingertips!
