Default I gotta stock LQ4 alternator question

I heard the other day that i can't just run a big wire from the back of the terminal to the starter terminal like normal without running some sort of resistor or diode or something......? otherwise it burns up the alternator?

I thought these new alternators are all internally controlled?

Currently my setup is I'm using the stock PCM & wiring to the alternator and then using a Speedway 20 circuit fuse block/ wire going from alternator to starter then starter to fuse block and it works fine?

if you have the ECM feeding the alternator than you are OK. it adds the needed resistance to the sense wire.
