Are all the gen3/gen4 starters the same?

Are all the gen3/gen4 starters the same? Ran a gen3 5.3 last year. Starter bolted right in (98 ls1 starter).
I picked up an 08 alum 5.3 to try this year. Starter "dog housing" around the gear smacks the flywheel and will not bolt up?
Am I missing something? Do the alum 5.3's require a different starter?

pretty sure there all the same , might require a diffrent flywheel, or flywheel spacer .. ive always just used the 4l80e flywheels on all mine , ,with same starter ,
