LS1 or 427

LS1 or 427 Ok I am building a 1966 lemans from frame up, picked up a 2004 wrecked GTO last year with 60,000 miles with the 6 speed for a steel $4500 for complete car, but I'm new to the LS1 and my buddy is trying to tok me into using his 400 block and building 427 stroker and put the T56 behind it. I was planning on changing heads and cam on the LS1. I figure I would have about 6 grand all said and done into the 427 build any thoughts. I have read on hear that 500 horse is doable for the ls1, I would like to supercharge eventually. I am having the T56 built for 900 horse by Texas Speed. The car will have all new suspension front and rear to handle everything also with new currie rear.

You answered your own question. If you are building the T56 for 900 horse, why use the LS1 and make ~600 (depending on amount of boost) on a supercharger when you could make more with the 427? I would go with the 427 personally, they're sweet, I can't imagine how sick it would be supercharged.

a 427 stroker with a stock GM 400 block can get expensive .you will need to sonic check the block ,and do alot of machine work .the 2 bolt converted to a 4 bolt is stronger the a original 4 bolt . you probably need to go with a 4" stroker crank make sure you have a thick wall on the thrust side of the bore .I have a 427 sbc ,but I used a motown block,which allows for a big bore ,and has a beefier bottom then a stock gm 400 block . 500 crank hp is easy with a ls1 .some $1700 after market heads with a fast intake and the right cam can make 475 rwhp.
