Man I wish I was your neighbor, that looks like a fun build.

I started to tab the floor for the new aluminum pan it will be getting. I still need to add more bracing in the floor but have to wait for my seats first. I don't want to add bracing and find out the seats aren't going to sit in the spot I want. It seems like I always need something before I can finish something else.

I need to do something like this with one of the bugs sitting in my garage. I have a 70 and a 55 european model right now.

Don't hack apart the 55! Keep that one and use the 70 as the project car. You can find the 70's bugs all day long for cheap. I mean I picked mine up for $600 complete without an engine. The 50's bugs are getting harder to find..

I've actually thought about doing this before! This is going to be ridiculous! I can't wait to see it run!

Yeah I couldn't bring myself to do anything to the 55 I couldn't undo. It needs a bunch of work but its really solid and all there including original motor and trans. I will probably eventually do a resto cal on it. I have had it for 15 years and I only paid $500 for it.

That's some amazing work! We can make an exception for the lack of LS engine this one time

Well I haven't had much time to work on the Bug lately, so not much has changed. I decided to hold off on building the engine until I get everything mached up. I did have a chance last night to get the exhaust mached up.

That's a pretty flimsy exhaust hanger. Think it will hold?

Not sure on the color yet. I think I am going to leave it looking like a beater for a while. That is last on my list! I am thinking of a black, white and bright green theme. I know for a fact I am doing all the a-arms bright green and the frame is going to be a crinkle finish black. I was thinking of doing black fenders and a white body. We will see when I get there!

A little info on the pictures I posted a few post up. I went with a Magnaflow muffler. It is all 3 inch stainless and mandrel bent. I am going to run the car NA for break in and until I can afford to get all the turbo parts. The shocks I used are QA1 double adjustable. I need to get shorter springs on the front still. The way it sits right now is at the height of a stock bug. Needs to go down another 2 inches! The car is ending up weighing less then I thought it would. I think the way it sits right now, it is at 1100 LBS with the engine and trans in. I probably only have another 300 LBS of stuff left to add onto it. I was guessing it was going to end up around 1700-1800 but I think I am going to be a little off...

Keep in mind, this thing is only gonna weigh ~1500#. More like an F1 than an Escalade...

Gussets!? Why would I do such a thing? O wait you must be talking about these.... I was thinking about installing them but they are on hold for now. The more off road cars I see come through the shop and the more people I talk to about them, the more I think I don't need them. The arm mounts are 3/16" thick. I wouldn't mind having the extra strength just in case I do hit something. I would rather have an arm bend instead of a mount getting pulled off.
