Might try contacting Speartech since he has done one of these.

Heres my thoughts, Tubular k-member should give you more options, speartech said that the mounts from s&p do not work with third gen, but it is all about oil pan placement with the crossmember, i believe they will work with a tubular k-member. Their mounts are $90 and are solid to the block and are suppose to be used with SBC lower mounts. With the stock crossmember, everyone uses the ones made by third gen resource and mounts them aprox 2" back so the oil pan has a little clearence with the member. Good Luck and let us know what you figure out.

hmmm, that raises another poitn for me to look at then. i definately want to movce teh motor back since i know i can(hey, i'm a racer ).
it woudl seem to me that if the pan will clear the stock k-member with teh motor moved back a bit then it shoudl be able to clear the smaller tubing of the tublar k, or are the tubular units aligned that much differently?
thanks gang

your are thinking properly, it should clear the tubular easier i would think(i dont have a tubular so im not 100% positive)I dont see how they could be aligned that much different. I definately agree with you on moving it back a few inches though. Seems like every little bit further back would help the weight transfer, now i wouldnt want to go too far back due to bellhousing bolts and grounds on the back of the heads. I wouldnt want to have to fight these to get them out later.

my plan is to set the motor as far back as i can and still get to the bell housing bolts, i am actually planning to move the grounds off of the heads and onto the lower portions of the block itself to create more space to get to the bell housing bolts and to hide the wires a bit adn clean up the engine compartment look. i figure with the grounds out o fteh way that shoudl give me another 1/2 inch or so i can go back with out any problems.
lucky the 3rd gen tranny tunnels are a bit oversized, so if all else fails i can jack up the car and get to the bolts that way with some minor tunnel clearencing. also, i will be runnign a powerglide, so i shoudl have a little bit of room to work around the tranny.
thanks for your help.
