Hot rodding 101. Build what you want, you want to jam a v8 in a yugo by all means go far it. Nice to see something different. Like the guy that put a 2jz in a 69 Camaro, a lot of ppl hated it, I say embrace it cuz he spent the money, modified it, ran it and beat it up having fun.

Look up "world's fastest mobility scooter vs. GTR" on Youtube.

No V8 needed there

V-8 in things that didnt come with one can be neat dont get me wrong, but its such a goto answer. Sometimes id love to see a modern turbo 4 in your vintage hot rod. If your gonna goto the effort to build a 32 with an EFI motor, everyone and their mom had a 350 in one. Not saying is isnt nice, and can be a great driver, but i goto car shows and I could care less bout the shiny car with an LS in it, lol. Thats prolly why I played with Volvos for so long, and now im hooked on British cars. You only need 100HP in a car that weighs 1300lb to make it scary fun. Even without that ive had waaay more fun in slow underpowerd cars than anything with an 8 in it.

With that said, I dont think there is a better solution for V-8 power than an LS. So easy, so cheep so readily available and the interchangeability is just nuts. If you wanna V-8, do it with an LS. And cramming on in the more odd things? People ask but why? The only answer should be why not

What an inane and at times factually incorrect compilation.

I believe the owner of that vehicle and many others like it will tell you otherwise.

Answer: The LS1 conversion + Toy-Jet cooling system saves you 21lbs. over your factory setup at the rear of the vehicle.

Audi's sure!

Here's my 2003 RS6 with 800AWHP (yes its AWD and that was at 16psi on pump gas) Twin Turbo 383 stroker LS1!!!

http://www.htmotorworks.com/#!project-judas/c2398

Unfortunatley the SCAT crank didn't like that much HP and was flexing. We are now working on an ERL 427 Gen 4 short block for 25+psi and 1000+AWHP on pump

I've met the owner of that Porsche multiple times. According to him, the LS actually weighs less than the stock engine so not only did he gain power with the LS (it was supercharged), he lost weight from it as well.

I'm still looking for an early MG Midget LS swap that's complete.
Mine is sitting in the garage with no engine and I keep wondering if it'll work.....

Guess the author has never heard of Renegade Hybrids.....
He says: "Why because it would ruin the entire handling of the car. V8 swaps are fine in more current Porsches, but this one would make this classic 911 undriveable. So much rear weight!"

Does this look like it ruined the handling?

Default 911 V8 "Ruined"?

Facts:

A 2.7 70's or a 3.0L 80's 911 engine fully prepped, is roughly the same weight as an LS prepped.

A 1976 - 1989 930 Turbo 911 engine is at least 180lbs. HEAVIER than a prepped LS.

A 993 or 996 Twin Turbo 911 engine is at least 220 lbs. HEAVIER than a prepped LS.

A 944 turbo engine is HEAVIER than a prepped LS.

A 928 engine is 200+ lbs. HEAVIER than a prepped LS

A 996 engine is roughly the same weight as the LS

A Boxster and Cayman engines are roughly the same weight as the LS.

Even the 914-6 engine is almost the same weight as the LS and the 914-4 is only 120lbs. lighter.

31+ years of Renegade Hybrids, and people still get the facts a little wrong from time to time.

^^^You've shoehorned an LSx into the middle of a Cayman, and Boxster??

I will take mine with a fully prepped, UNRESTRICTED, ITB, NA, Katech built C5/6R powerplant, and a sequential transaxle, thank you very much!!

Normally I'm not opposed to engine swaps. If anything I'd prefer if owners kept it in the family, but like others have been saying its up to the owner.

Although one thing that does make me die a little inside is V8 RX-7 Swaps. The rotary is what makes them special, and by removing it you're left with what is essentially a fast good looking car. I will point out that it makes perfect sense to LS Swap a RX-7 though. Boost and rotaries don't play nice it seems.
