4x4 S10 future project
One possible candidate is a RCSB 94 4.3/4L60-E truck. I'd be aiming for 4.8 / 4L60E minimum; 5.3 / 6L80E if I got lucky.
Things I'd I'd love to hear confirmation / suggestions on:
The 94 4L60-E is going to need to go bye bye without total changeover (PWM pump / converter and later model valvebody to readily work with a later PCM / stock-ish tune)
The final year of column shift linkage (not cable) might present challenges with the exhaust, so worst case scenario, I would add a 95-up column & cable style setup.
The only way to stick with stock drivelines would be to stay close to stock trans setback location and stick with the 4L60-E.
The VSS signal would go to the PCM and the PCM could feed the stock 4004 ppm speedo AFAIK.
F-body stock exhaust manifold castings are viable in 2WD swaps I think; any suggestions for the 4WD that won't require reworking, should I go for reworking narrow fitment car stuff instead of wider-fit truck stuff?
Any wisdom on the stock T-case fitment compared to the later trucks? I can get off my butt and check out a friend's 2000 vs this truck but I'm just not a t-case knowledgeable guy.
What about donors? Are you getting your swaps from C/K trucks at salvage, craigslist? To be honest, I'd love to get a very cheap 4.8 / 4x4 4L60-E that has lower demand than the 2WD swap fodder, but I'm not seeing them; was the 5.3 just that much more common?
I understand this project is one of the tighter ones due to exhaust and oil pan, and even after reading a lot, I think I'll just measure a lot and get in touch with a talented TIG guy on the pan.
Thoughts welcomed.
