Removing Smog on a E-rod Crate Engine
As the title says I want to remove the smog equipment on a new LS3 E-rod crate engine.
I have looked around & do not see anything on the web about such a process. Any hints on where to look?
Yeah I know I could have bought a different motor but I found this at a pretty good price.
Oh, and I am pretty LSx illiterate, but learning fast!
My guess is that I would ditch the cats, computer, wiring, charcoal canister & procure a different computer & harness.
I assume I could sell the take-off's to offset costs, eh?
I would love to hear your thoughts!
Regards,
Stan
But I don't see much advantage in that. You'll have another $100 in the ecu tune. And for resale, often having an emissions compliant motor is a big plus.
Seems like a pretty easy thing to do other than the programming. At this time I have not found a person to program my stuff. I know it is WAY beyond my capabilities.
Who would you suggest to retune my ECU? I not at that point in my swap yet, but getting there.
Could the items I take off/eliminate be put on another LSx(3) and make it smog compliant? If so I think I could unload what I have & help somebody out.
Gary what you say is correct. WV does not have a smog check. And by the time this car is sold, I will be 6 feet under...
Again, mucho thanks for answering these newbie questions!
You could have save $2k with using a standard create engine and setup.
I have not heard of any one tuning an eRod ECM yet... that would possibly void the CARB Certification. But I take it your not worried about that.
But back to the question..it just comes down to removing all of the Smog equipment and disable the DTC codes and functions as needed. May as well have it Dyno tuned while your at it.
