4.8 buildup This is basically a ground up build on a limited (and I mean limited) budget. Starting with engine, then onto trans, then comes a rolling car, and everything in between. I'm looking into megasquirt for the car, I definitely want a turbo and a cam, I know for sure I'm running a TH400 with a PTC converter. But everything comes in time and I'm not rushing this build. 
I'm starting with a 2003 4.8 with 92,845 I picked up for $625. Intake to pan, all accessories, belt was still attached. Even came with the TAC module and Pedal, ECU and complete harness, all 02 sensors, airbox.
And this is how it sits as of today
Basically leaving the shortblock alone but the stock cam is coming out. When I took the valve covers off I was shocked out how clean everything was: (not the best lighting in this pic)
Heads look great, keeping the 862's. Just gonna clean everything up real good. The cylinders are in great shape as well. Nothing special here but its a start!

get your wiring modified and all other stuff you can do til budget comes in. but atleast you can get cam set up done, motor buttoned up. your going to figure out what car you want to do cause oil pan will need to be changed out.

spent hours and hours turning my factory truck harness into a standalone and now I talked myself out of using it. lol
I have now chosen to run Microsquirt
going to buy a computer and harness and get to work on that.
