Default LS1 in 68 Corvette...Shopping list needed

Alright, I've been following the few C3 conversion over the past year and I am ready to start my own. I'll be yanking out the big block and 4 speed this week to prepare for an LS1 and 6speed conversion. I am going to do a heads and cam LS1 and rebuild the 6 speed tranny with stronger part. I am currently in search of a low mile LS1/T56 combo with accessories so I can start the heads/Cam/Tranny rebuild. I would also like to start shopping for all the other parts I will need. I was going to fab my own mounts, use the painless wiring harness and order a custom drive shaft from Moser. Beyond that I was going to wing it. Now that I think about it, I would like to have more organized plan with parts already lined up.

Has anyone assembled a shopping list of all parts for this conversion?

Thanks in advance,

RC

I am kinda looking for a shopping list as well for the 67-69 F-bodies. I've already found most of my parts..just a few more that I need to track down. The fuel system will probably be my biggest concern, along with whether or not to install the rack & pinion steering setup.

Well, for starters, the acc drive won't fit, you'll either have to fab or buy a set up. S/L has brackets that you can buy, they are expensive. A stock LS-1 'vette setup may work if you aren't running A/C, or so I've been told. I'm not familiar with the manual trans mod- mine is auto, but there are other threads about that, you may need a crossmember, I dunno. Let's see, fuel pump and lines, electronics and harness. If you want to use OEM instruments, there are ways. It just depends on what you get for an engine/trans and what you want to do with it. I was just wondering for all of you guys who have completed your conversion, has anyone thought to install an inertia switch? I was just thinking about all of that nice high pressure fuel, what if there is a wreck?
Anyway, that should get you started. If I had a big-block, I think I'd just keep it. I saw a early C-3 the other day with a 454 and 3 deuces. Enough to make a grown man cry. But that's just me.

Huh? I've got the stock f-body setup on the front of my car and things to fit just fine. I made a new alternator bracket because I wanted to put it high on the driver's side like original. Others have used the stock F-body location without issue.

I made a bolt-in bracket to bolt the T56 to my stock 4-speed crossmember without cutting it up. (I will have to move the motor forward to get the tranny out, but to me it's worth it to not have to cut up my nicely restored frame.)

I'm still a couple of weeks from firing up the car, but I've also thought about the inertia switch on the fuel pump. I haven't done any research into finding something that will work, so it you find one please let us know.

This is pretty generic, but it may be of some help. Shoot me an email for specifics. BaconJB@centurytel.net

OK, so it is very generic.

I think a stock 88 C-4 alum. driveshaft will fit perfectly. Everything but a/c fit in mine. Other than that, it all goes in nice.

I'll be looking into the inertia switch sometime this week and post what I find out. I like shark, but not barbequed. : ) My first instinct is to look for the one that would have come with whatever car the engine, etc came from. I wouldn't think that it would make much of a difference as long as the pump doesn't draw too many amps for the switch, assuming GM's are set up the same way as Ford's (that's what I mostly work on).

Please, please excuse me. I didn't even try using mine. (98 f-body acc drive) Here's why: "There is no way that factory Camaro or Firebird bracketry will work on the C-5 Shark....." ---'Vette Magazine, Vol 27 Issue 8, article titled, "C-5 Shark". It goes on to talk about moving the alt to drivers side high in the same arrangement as C-3, A/C compressor, etc, blah blah, blah. I'm pissed as well as embarrassed. I based my entire project planning on what the dipsh$# who wrote it said. And by the way he wrote it, you'd think he was doing brain surgery or something. My apologies to all.
