Cool Should I paint it? G body

What do you think. Should I paint it? or leave it like this?.......... looking raggedy.

The problem is at some point I will have to replace the doors (and probably the fenders) due to rust................ LOL

It is kind of nice like this no one looks at it until I open the hood or make a pass..............

Leave it alone. I like the rough look. Plus, why paint it now and then paint it again when you replace the doors and fenders?? Save your money and just do 1 paint job.

Doesn't look raggedy, looks very stealth. Around the Midwest We'd LOOK at it just like it is.

That's a vacuum pump.

I would leave her as is.

It depends on you more than anything. I thought I wanted a perfectly painted car and I was wrong. I worry about it too much and feel like a jerkoff because of it.

Thanks for the feed back! My thinking is also to leave it like that for a while. At some point I will have to replace the doors (they are pretty bad) so I might paint it then. BTW the car looks better in pictures than in person.

As for JimmyG who ask about the vacuum pump. The idea is to run around 12 inches of crankcase vacuum at WOT. All engines create a certain amount of blow by (leakage of compressed fuel and air past the rings into the pan area). This blow by airflow creates a positive pressure in the crankcase, the vacuum pump "sucks" air out of the crankcase with its negative airflow. The net difference between the air being sucked out by the pump and the air generated by the engine with blow by yields the effective vacuum. This in turn minimizes "resistance" when the piston goes down on the intake and power strokes. It all increases HP and reduces oil leaks

I would prefer painted. Maybe a dark charcoal metallic or deep blood red metallic. Those cars are really nice when they're nice, not as much a fan when they're rough looking.

Just my $.02 but the "sleeper" fad is kinda dead to me. You can't go to any meet or track anymore without there being one subtle monster...kinda kills the mystique and just leaves a lot of rough looking cars that appear unfinished.

I know my opinion will be in the minority, but you did ask. My car is currently primer and I would really like to get it painted as soon as funds allow.

Looks killer! Id leave it as is!
My car has glass hood and bumpers are they are in gel-coat black, but i always tell people who say to paint my car, you cant tell at 140mph.

Your stance is really nice too.
What is the set up front/back to get it to sit like that?

Does that pump really add hp? The energy to run it has to come from somewhere, and if it's belt driven then wouldn't it follow that the power to run it must be greater than the power it produces?

How much HP? it probably depends on the set up. I never disconnected it on the dyno to find out. A supercharger is also belt driven...I know I know it also produces boost.

But if you really think about there is pressure in the crankcase if you replace that with Vacuum there will be power gains since it will reduce the resistance when the piston goes down. Some have claimed 30 to 40 HP increase with a Vacuum pump.

You could always PlastiDip it, there are a lot of different colors and even metallics and pearls available.

I'd personally leave it alone for a while but I think that plasti-dip as mentioned or having it wrapped would be a good option.

Once I have the funds for the doors and fenders I will probably paint it. It will probably be in about two years or who knows. I am having too much fun with it!

I thought about the wrap but it is about the same amount $$ as paint. The pasti ip I have never considered.

Since you needs parts, how bout you just buff the paint you got, sand & spray the peeling bumpers flat black or something & make the wheels match, either both painted or polished. Akso mask up & dupli-color spray can paint the worst chip areas. Will at least make it look better from a distance.

Don't need a whole new paint job to make it look more respectable.

Thanks for the ideas. Believe or not those are matching wheels from billet specialties................. and they do not come with a center cap nor is there one available
