What to look for in a JY LY6
I don't have a local JY, so have been searching through car-parts.com to find something on the regional level.
I'm lost with a lot of the shorthand used to describe engines, so I'll probably spend some time on the phone with the yards to get any details.
I'm hoping to get an engine that just needs some minor refurb to clean up small parts. I'd like to avoid opening the engine up at this point and it will be going in bone stock to assess the swap car's ability to handle the lowest power level.
Questions:
What compression numbers should I stay above for the LY6? Are JY descriptions often providing cold compression? A few explicitly state cold, but most don't.
Oil pressure seems important, what PSI am I looking for?
Ideally I can get a long block, which I think means all accessories, but possibly not ECU/harness, but I'm not sure?
What does the term change-over mean? That term seems to pop up pretty frequently?
Any other tips or advice from those of you who have gone through this process, I'd love to hear some lessons learned to avoid spending 1500-2000 for something that isn't the right engine.
Thanks in advance,
Jon
