Aftermarket EFI management options??
I tried doing a search but it seems to be pulling up mostly build threads but had a few questions.
I'm looking into aftermarket EFI and like the cleanliness of the MSD atomic EFI stuff on fuel injected LS1 engines.
Also looking at some Holley stuff too
But my question is, as far as I can tell these systems won't control a later 4L60e transmission like a stock PCM.
If that's the case I have to look at some sort of transmission controller as well wouldn't I?
Just trying to get a hand on what all doing something like this will entail.
I currently have a stock 2004 PCM with a stock style tune, and a modded harness. Wouldn't mind simplifying things and cleaning up my engine bay a bit. And I like the fact that the Atomic EFI is self learning. Just wished it had some basic transmission controller functions built in too. Would save some cash.
There is nothing wrong with the harness and PCM you are currently running other than it is old. If it is not causing problems, I would leave it alone. There are many computer supply sites that sell harness and wire coverings that are woven and split so it looks just like a new harness. It costs about $1 per foot.
I am not a fan of most self learning systems based upon my personal experience with them. Imo, the intent is good but glorified and over rated. I have a hard time accepting the fact that when, not if, the mad system breaks, you can't go to any parts store and buy replacement parts immediately and at low cost.
Aftermarket trans controllers are around $500. When you add the cost of a new harness it can be expensive. Not justifiable imo just to make it look pretty.
