Default E39 bmw lq4 s480

I was really unhappy with the way my E36 turned out, so I bought an E39!

The 6.0, 4L80e, Holley HP EFI,radiator, etc are being swapped into the E39. Name: 3476D0C4-4926-4CC1-8D92-8C725F38F83D_zpsiswmavtp.jpg

Awesome project especially with the turbo heat shield. Subscribed!

Where did you source the mounts from and could you post the part number for the oil pan? Thank you!

The mounts are built by a member on Bimmer Forums. The pan is made by AutoKraft. I don't recall a part #. Google their name, they are out of Wisconsin. Not sure if they are a vendor (don't want to link to them and break forum rules).

I'm stoked to see another person as insane as me! It's not an easy task. ;-)

I will be happy to lend any knowledge that I can. On that note, there are several updates I need to post.

It's been a while since this was updated. I found a smoking deal on a T6 S480 with a 96mm ex wheel. The alternator was too close to the new turbo and a different bracket was sourced and modified. There is plenty of clearance now. The T6 housing required the downpipe to be changed up and a 5"-4" transition added at the turbo flange. The intercooler is fit & charge pipes are figured out. They need to be welded up, but I don't know how to tig. With the intercooler, piping, air filter and p/s pump hiding behind the rear bumper, there isn't enough room for my trans cooler. I want to run the M5 style exhaust, so the spare tire well was raised up approx 6". The trans cooler will be mounted under the spare tire well. The Holley EFI and FAST TCU are wired and interfaced with the car. Coolant hoses and serpentine belt are figured out and installed. The trans cooler lines and fuel lines are yet to be determined. There is still a ton to do!

Another pic of the wheel well trimmed up and tacked in place. I went on vacation and found a set of OEM m5 wheels (style 65's) for a price I couldn't turn down. They need to be refinished. I have a a color picked out, at 50.00/ wheel it's a hell of a deal.Name: 42BDF24D-0042-4C1A-8A2B-D36EE2374932_zpsmpkb2uwu.jpg

I've been looking for a low key gauge substitute for the Holley touchscreen. The E39 interior is larger than the E36, yet there is much less room to install gauges/ touchscreen without looking gaudy.

While searching eBay, this came up.

There are multiple models, I went with the "pro." It will display every parameter that I had on the Holley touch screen and more. The display is remote mounted from the "brain box", thus allowing a multitude of mounting positions. I sat in the drivers seat and placed the display all over the car trying to decide the best position. I wasn't happy with anything until I discovered the display is the same width as the center a/c vent. It is also about 1/2 as tall.

I decided on the left lower half of the center a/c vent. While seated it is very easy to read. I couldn't find a spot that works any better. The vent in my car was cracked, so I tore it apart and got everything mocked up. A replacement vent is on the way. It will be modified to accept this gauge setup. Then the wiring starts!

I'm trying to keep this one fairly low key, this is the interesting exhaust system I worked on yesterday. The exhaust is 4" from the turbo up to the OEM Y-pipe. The 4" transitions into the OEM Y-pipe & mufflers. From the back of the car it looks 100% stock.

Before anyone gets upset, I know this isn't anywhere near optimal for the engine and turbo. I want the car to be tame and quiet under normal driving conditions.

On the other hand, there needs to be a solution for when the conditions aren't "normal." I'm looking at different styles of exhaust cutouts. There are boost activated butterfly valves, electric butterfly valves and others have used a large wastegate. I do have a 60mm Chinese wastegate that is a possibility.

The passenger side of the Y-pipe is probably where this will end up. There is a ton of room in that location.

Car looks like it is coming along well. My mounts just went to powdercoat, I sourced a 4l80, and got some more fiddly bits for the engine (I am still putting it back together getting it ready for install). I cleared the spot in the garage and am getting ready to pull the 530 in to start pulling the engine and trans. Its close to beginning.

Now that you are running the t6, what are you doing with the t4? Let me know if you think about selling it.

I keep forgetting to update this thread. The car has come along nicely since the last post. It finally fired up this past weekend. The progress has been a ton of "busy work." Everything from painting the interior trim (hate BMW woodgrain) to installing fuel lines. Pictures are usually more fun...

trim painted

dual trans coolers

vinyl wrapped shifter surround

E36 m3 wheel with paddle shifters

cheapo turbo blanket

start of bi xenon acura TL projectors

Disclaimer: My videos suck, but here you are!

Exhaust sound (classy 4" downpipe to stock Y-pipe/ muffler)

Thats about it for now. There seems to be an endless list of little things that need to be done, but the list is getting shorter.
