Per my alt repair shop the best way to run them is with the pcm or not connected at 13.8v. Just looked and dad has 40k with no issues

Hey, i know this is old, but you can use a pwm controller that generates a pwm signal and you can charge at whatever voltage you want. Car audio guys do it to charge some lithium at 15 volts. I have a 320 amp pwm alternator on my 02 6.0 silverado.

They're real cheap, look up xy pwm controller. I have one with one ****. If anyone is interested i can go further into this.
