Default "1997" Camaro LT1 to LS1 Swap Thread

So just a little background info: I got a killer deal on a wrecked 2002 Trans Am LS1/T56 car with only 39k miles. The owner put the car on its roof and was lucky to walk away from the wreck with minor injuries. He was the original owner too. My car was originally a 93 v6 car that I converted to a 1997 z28 by stripping mine to a shell and swapping everything over from the donor car. Now I will be just swapping my car instead of changing all of the harnesses and everything.

We start out with my donor car which I picked up for a cool $2500. I've been working on parting it out to make back some cash and its almost paid for itself!

Sitting in the wreckers yard the day I got it:

At this point I'm in the process of removing the LT1/4l60e out of my car and prepping it for the swap. Once the LT1 is dropped I can modify my tunnel for the shifter hole as well as put the master cylinder in the firewall. I will also be installing Texas Speed 1-7/8" longtube headers before it goes in! And I'm trying to beat a hard deadline of next friday :icon_slap: so stay tuned because its gonna get intense!

Nice work so far. I have a 93 that was originally Lt1 and 700r4 that I swapped to Lq4 and T56. Here is a link. https://ls1tech.com/forums/conversio...q4-t-56-a.html

Good luck, took me a while to drop a ls1/4L60 just like that and put it into a roller my first time

And I didn't have to change anything, 2000 into a 2000

BIG update today! Got the entire drivetrain in after a long day of work. It took some finesse but she finally decided to go in.

Pedals mounted up and master cylinder hole drilled in firewall.

Texas Speed headers on and looking pretty, along with some fresh NGK plugs and MSD wires.

Lifting the car sky high for one final time to slide the new motor in its final resting spot.

And she's in! So much more room up top than the lt1 and everything is much cleaner looking.

So right now I am working on getting all of the wiring done. So far the only actual wiring that I did was swapping the front and rear 02 signal wires so that I didn't have to use O2 extensions with my long tubes.

Here is what wiring I have conceptualized after looking at harness diagrams:
This is my first time doing any major harness wiring so feel free to point out any errors or changes that might be present.

I will designate which connector the wire moves from and then to, and free spot means that the pin is blank on the connector.

Move LS1 C101 - Pin C (AIR pump relay control) to LS1 C100 - Pin E
--This will match the air pump wires up to 97 LT1 body, but I deleted the pump

Move LS1 C100 - Pin E (TP Sensor Signal) to LS1 C105 - Pin C (free spot)
--This will match the TP Signal to the LT1 TCS throttle position [is this correct?]

Move LS1 C101 - Pin K (Ignition Retard Signal) to LS1 C105 - Pin A
-- This will match LT1 C105 TCS system spark retard, I deleted TCS though

Move LS1 C105 - Pin G (Engine Speed Signal)[extend] to LS1 C230 - Pin D (free spot)
--This will match to LT1 C230 tach signal to cluster

Move LS1 C220 - Pin A (Oil Pressure Indicator) to LS1 C220 - Pin B [remove grey wire CPP switch that is in B, it is not needed]
--This will match the LT1 oil pressure feed to the cluster

Move LS1 C101 - Pin D (Primary Fuel Pump Relay Control) to LS1 C220 - Pin J
--This will match up to the LT1 Fuel pump relay control

Move LS1 C101 - Pin B (Ignition 1 Voltage) to LS1 C100 - Pin F (free spot)
--This will take power from the LT1 actuators fuse #2 [15amp] and supply power to the ignition

This is what I have so far, I will update as i figure out more wiring. Hopefully everything is correct so far

Once it's done, it's a blast. Everyone just thinks "oh another lt1 car, this will be easy." Good looking car.

My thoughts exactly lol. I started repinning the harness today and worked on getting the fuel system sorted. I hope my wiring pinouts are right lol

Updating with some pictures, she's coming along! I got the fuel system done and the wire reinstalled to the starter from the battery in the trunk. I converted the return system to a single -6 AN line from the stock fuel filter location using a vette filter/regulator. I got the Pontiac column in as well since my wheel was really old and bad looking, so I figured I would swap them. Plus I'll be able to have two sets of keys for my car now

This build is awesome. I wanted to do one but got too good a deal on a 00 roller.

I hate electric unknown factors though.

Nice progress so far. The wiring isn't too bad. You just have to have a lot of patience and study all the pin outs and diagrams. I actually repinned my harness in my bedroom. lol

Oh I have been studying lol, I was drawing out the repinning when I was idle at work. I think I have a good grip on it, the only thing is that I'm not 100% sure is needed once I have some stuff depinned and just hanging out there.

Any chance one of you guys could repin harnesses for others for $? I'm at a total loss with my 97 swap, I thought the PCM could be repinned or something, I'm in the early stages still....
