Standalone harness for LQ4/LSA
For folks that have done this, who did you use for your wiring harness?
Did you go with a DBC throttle body or DBW? If you went with a DBC what did you do in regards to IAC and TPS?
I've got a 2001 LQ4 (24x) with an LSA blower on it. I was looking at various harness manufacturers such as PSI, current performance, speartech, etc and they all have the options for dbw, dbc, etc, but not much else. Did you specifically tell them about the blower on it so that they could route the wires properly for the MAF (did you go 3 or 5 wire) and MAP sensor?
Beyond the wiring, what type of PCM did you use? From what I can tell 0411 seems to be the most popular, but I was also told that they don't lend themselves well to boosted applications.
Anyone shed some light on this for me? I think I've got the mechanical part of this swap handled, but the wiring is giving me a headache.
I have spoke with Jared a CPW. He built my current harness, and said he could modify mine for the swap of the LSA. Basically, he just needs to change my MAF to a different location, and change the injector plugs, and move the MAP. Mine will stay DBC. I am going to reuse the factory truck TB with the IAC and TPS, and just use a adaptor plate that is sold on ebay.
As far as the 0411, that is what I will be using. I don't know where you heard they don't lend themselves to boost well, but that is a myth. Certain OS's have only 2 bar options available, but even if that is the case, MOST guys running a LSA, aren't going over 14#'s of boost anyway. If you really want to run more, just do the research, and make sure you run a 0411 that has 3 bar options available.
Run an 0411 PCM, preferably from your same LQ4, as it will load a 3-bar with ease. But rturbo is right, you won't ever get that high of boost numbers with the LSA.
I would run with DBC, as the tuning will be much easier and eleminate the MAF, as a speed density tune will be much easier anyway also, especially with boost.
You will want to pull the IAT wires out of the MAF harness and use them though.
Overall, I'm really glad I built my own harness as I was able to build one for my buddy for his swap in half the time and cleaner the 2nd time. It's all a 12 volt DC system anyway...
Feel free to ask more questions though.
LSA injectors and aftermarkets that fit all use EV6 connectors similar to LS2/3/9's and flex fuel trucks
Lengthen the MAP sensor to rear the drivers side blower lid and switch to the bosch connector. Same wire functions and colors will suffice but the PCM needs a reflash
The IAT sensor is located in the drivers lid as well, same connector, just move it
MAF is optional. My tuner runs SD for all boosted applications, but theres nothing stopping the 3 wire 75mm FBody LS1 MAF, 85mm truck MAF (minus IAT wires) or LS3/7 card style MAF (minus IAT wires again)
DBC isnt an issue at all. GEN III electronics mostly support DBC and the ebay 90+mm units bolt right on. Smaller TBs can be used with a 3 to 4 bolt adapter. 0411 PCMs can be DBC or DBW. LT1swap.com goes over identifying which PCMs can or cannot support DBC
DBW gets expensive because the only OEM TB that will fit is the LS2 silver blade TB which is pricey. LS3 gold blade 90mm units will not work with GEN III electronics. A matching pedal and TAC module is required. Common smaller 3 bolt DBW TBs can be used with an adapter plate and the matching pedal/TAC
Same sort of stuff you'd do with any intake/SC swap
