4.8 ls hhr swap Hey theodore here, new to site and all, looking to swap a 2004 4.8 LQ4 into my hhr... I will be converting to rwd and plan on using a 4l80e for trans, car weighs 4200 lbs, so it's no lean beast, but I want to retain family car as I have three kids, I plan on going with 5 buckets, two in front 3 in back, the car already has a driveshaft tunnel, but may need to be enlarged, the firewall should clear, eyeballing it, and the transmission will need a tunnel... I need to tub the rear end and would like info on rear ends and wiring harness, as well as power loss through trans and different rear ends.

I was more hoping to find more info on which rear end and such to use, the conversion I'm not nearly as worried about.
What are the pros and cons of a 9 inch rear end vs the 10 or 12 bolt??

well these days not much. all three have a ton of afterarket support. I went 9" for two reasons, setting them up is really easy and used gears for them are really cheap thanks to circle track racing.

I was thinking about going with a 9 inch as well, just because we always did in our drag car back in the day, and never had it go out with over 900 horses... but I want to go with a 2.90 rear gear for the highway and the way I'm gonna build the motor.
Going to go with a big cam single turbo (88mm or larger) 5.3 to start, then maybe stroke to 383. (3.90 bore x4.00 stroke.
